This project in two parts, completed over the course of many months of cold winter weather, aims to capture the beauty and warmth inherent in natural dyes. The yellow marigold dye-work in particular was carried out during a long stretch of gray weather in an attempt to craft my own sunshine. The range of colors produced through these technique is enhanced by being applied onto different handmade paper surfaces.
2018. Cochineal, cutch, henna, indigo, lac, logwood, and marigold dye experiments on handmade papers from abaca, cotton and flax; post binding enclosed in a matching Japanese portfolio enclosure; fitted clamshell box.
